Downer

Downer is a simple personal tool used to help you download items from the command line. Currently, there are 2 primary uses for Downer: downloading a sequential list of URLs contained in a text file and downloading a collection of images from a web page. Over time, I’d like to turn this into a truly useful downloading utility to help with frequent web development chores.

Usage Examples:

Downloading images from a webpage

Type in the website url you’d like to scrape and pass downer the ‘-i’ flag:

$ downer -i www.cnn.com ~/Desktop/tmp # will download all <IMG> tags from site

Downloading a single list of urls

Create a single text file, each line containing a url you wish to download. And fire off the following command:

$ downer myfile.txt ~/Desktop/myFolder # will donwload each file into the myFolder directory

Future versioning plans:

  • To enable downloads of images referenced in CSS

  • To enable downloads of images through a search engine like Google
