Apply

Apply wraps single-argument procs in a conditional closure. If the condition is true for argument, then it is passed to the proc. If the condition is false, the argument is returned immediately

Usage

# Upcase strings that start with a lowercase letter
upcase_if_starts_with_lowercase = Apply(&:upcase).if { |value| value =~ /^[a-z]/ }
%w{ Alice bob Carol }.map(&upcase_if_starts_with_lowercase) # => [ "Alice", "BOB", "Carol" ]

# Parenthesize non-nil values
parenthesize_unless_nil = Apply { |text| "(#{text})" }.unless(&:nil?)
[ "Alice", nil, "Carol" ].map(&parenthesize_unless_nil) # => [ "(Alice)", nil, "(Bob)" ]

Installation

Add this line to your application's Gemfile:

gem 'apply'

And then execute:

$ bundle

Or install it yourself as:

$ gem install apply

Development

After checking out the repo, run bin/setup to install dependencies. Then, run rake spec to run the tests. You can also run bin/console for an interactive prompt that will allow you to experiment.

To install this gem onto your local machine, run bundle exec rake install. To release a new version, update the version number in version.rb, and then run bundle exec rake release, which will create a git tag for the version, push git commits and tags, and push the .gem file to rubygems.org.
